Debut 12″ from a UK band who have the whole thrash-metal-crossover thing figured-out, sown-up, and in the can. Lots of UK bands attempted this style in the late 80’s, and most of them, if I’m honest, were a bit rubbish – it may be sacrilege (excuse the pun), but, live, Bolthrower were a bit flat and dull, (and Hellbastard and Cerebal Fix? not great, not great at all). These 5 tracks remind me of the same smart-punks-on-dumb-heavy-metal that those bands were attempting, only, Mere Mortal do it loads better. And without the muddy studio sound and loose musicianship that plagued their predecessors. But the evil overtones, chugging-beats, wailing guitar solos and cheesey graphics are all as spot-on as you could wish for. From members of The Flex, Big Cheese and Bitter Youth. RESENT formed in 2017, in Victoria BC, with intentions of playing ugly and disdain drenched sludge; the six tracks that make up their debut LP prove that they more than achieved this. When Iron Lung Records hosted a weekend of shows to celebrate their 10 years of being a label they secretly recorded a bunch of the sets hoping to catch some magic, but they had no idea that LEBENDEN TOTEN would kill it this hard. With the click of the stick a blanket of pure noise and pummeling beat, like a canon blast pushing the whole experience into a perfect frenzy. Seriously, there is not a single discernible mistake during the entire 25min. except one tiny moment where they tell the guitar was out of tune. Their music deserves that kind of attention. Limited to 1000 copies housed in a jacket with a custom die-cut Halloween decoration.

Eighteen minutes of self-hate, historical frustration, political dissidence, and blasting dbeats from Sacramento grind/doom duo Human Obliteration. Obviously, it can’t be grind without the… grind. So how’s that? Well, it’s fantastic! Taking influence from old school grind (and about 2/3rd a cup of crust punk,) the passionately furious riffs and speeding ticket deserving blast beats are a joy to listen to. No song really ever sounds the same and with the fantastic mix, everything fits quite nicely. The drums, bass, guitar, and vocals are all perfectly aligned and nothing feels left out or too present. The band was only around for a fraction of time but they had a huge impact on the small world surrounding them and Dennis of course went on to form REFUSED right after the break up. Members of STEP FORWARD were also involved in bands like FINAL EXIT, INTERNATIONAL NOISE CONSPIRACY, E.T.A., REGULATIONS, AC4 or INVSN in next three decades!

Two good things have come from Stoughton, Wisconsin: the coffee break and S.F.N.. After mysteriously dissolving in the last few years, they still seem to pop up every now and then with a new release. Link from Belgium creates melancholic atmospheres above Heavy tunes and dark lyrics. Their brooding brand of Hardcore Neocrust runs deep pulling a compounding sound of heaviness. Although it’s hard to put a label on the music, they just call it "Dark Crust".

An absolutely over the top recording comprising twelve tracks of punishing hardcore with a huge wall-of-noize production adding to their faultless song writing. As noisy as the album is, all the songs are hits and hard to forget. 'The Total Arse', 'Tomorrow' and 'Consuming Shit and Mind Pollution' are what the new generation of noize-not-music punk lack, memorable anthems. Housed in a 350 gsm regular sleeve and without alterations to the art or sound from the original, this reissue tries to bring an undoubtedly classic of our generation back to life.
